CEDOMIR KOSTOVIC

Born 1952. in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. He earned his BFA and MFA from the Sarajevo Academy of Fine Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1979-80, he received a stipend from the Polish government, during which he spent three semesters at the Faculty of Industrial Design, Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Department of Visual Communication, where he worked with Prof. Ryszard Otreba and his assistants, Jan Nuckowski and Wladyslaw Pluta.

He taught graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo from 1982 until 1991. Invited as an Artist in Residence, he spent one year at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Since 1992, he taught graphic design and illustration classes in the Art and Design Department at Missouri State University, where he holds the title of Professor Emeritus.

In addition to teaching, Cedomir’s professional activities include: creative graphic design in commercial, cultural, and social contexts; curating and organizing international poster exhibitions; publishing critical essays and articles on graphic design, and presenting lectures and workshops at various institutions worldwide.

He has been active on the international poster scene since 1980, and has exhibited at most major poster events in Poland, France, Belgium, Finland, Russia, Check Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, Israel, Mexico, Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, China, Iran, Taiwan, Turkey, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Great Britain, Argentina, Bolivia and the United States.

His work has been awarded over 100 national and international prizes and has been featured in many books, catalogs, and periodicals devoted to contemporary graphic design. Cedomir’s posters are included in prestigious poster collections worldwide.
IWONA RYPESC-KOSTOVIC

Multidisciplinary visual artist and academic lecturer, shaped by the inspiring, intellectually vibrant atmosphere of her native Krakow. Her creative potential has evolved and developed under the influence of the diverse cultural environments she has experienced: Poland, the former Yugoslavia, France, Italy, Tunisia, Turkey, Mexico, Canada, and the USA.

She graduated from the State High School of Fine Arts in Krakow in 1980. She spent the years 1980-1990 in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1985. In 1990, she was accepted into the postgraduate program in Visual Arts at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, where she received her MFA Summa cum laude in 1993. Since 1993, she has lived and worked in Springfield, Missouri, USA, where she continued the activities of her own studio, Iwona Creation, founded in Sarajevo in 1985. She has occasionally lectured at Missouri State University and served as a visiting professor at Ibero University in Mexico City, ITESO University in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the Ecole Lab Intuit in Paris, France.

In 2015, she defended her doctoral dissertation in visual arts, entitled Following the Footsteps of a Letter Carved in Stone at the Faculty of Industrial Design, Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Department of Visual Communication. From 2016 to 2023, she taught graphic design and visual communication at the Department of Art of Tarnów Academy in Tarnów.

Since 1985, Iwona has been active in the international art and design scene. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Spain, Serbia, Portugal, Ukraine, Mexico, China, Bulgaria, France, Canada, and the USA. Her artistic achievements have been recognized with numerous awards and distinctions in various disciplines, including posters, painting, graphic design, unique clothing, and textile wall art. Her works are included in the collections of world-renowned museums and cultural institutions, as well as in private collections in Europe, North America, and South America. Her work has been published in books and magazines dealing with contemporary art and design.
